Lusófona University performs innovative surgery to remove an intracranial tumour

The Teaching Hospital of Universidade Lusófona has achieved a pioneering milestone in veterinary medicine in Portugal by successfully performing its first intracranial neurosurgery on a cat with a brain tumour. This highly complex procedure demanded precision, experience, and a multidisciplinary approach.

The patient, Flay, a 13-year-old cat, arrived with mobility difficulties and loss of balance. Following diagnostic examinations, an intracranial tumour was identified, carrying a poor prognosis and severely compromising the animal’s quality of life.

Despite the challenge, the team decided to move forward. The surgery was long and delicate, requiring exemplary coordination among the various specialist lecturers of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

Today, Flay is doing well. He is walking again, eating on his own, and has already returned home to his owner’s care.
