On 7 April, artist Uriel Orlow was the guest speaker at the monthly lecture series, Great Artists on Campus, organised by the Department of Cinema and Media Arts (DCAM) at Lusófona University, dedicated to prominent figures in contemporary Portuguese art.
In a session that included a talk followed by a Q&A, Orlow presented his artistic practice, characterised by a multidisciplinary and research-based approach. His work spans installation, film, photography, and sound, exploring themes such as the legacies of colonialism, memory, social and ecological justice, and the role of plants as political agents.
With an international academic and artistic background, Orlow studied at institutions such as Central Saint Martins and the Slade School of Art, and has received awards including the Swiss Grand Award for Art (2023) and the Sharjah Biennial Award (2017). He has exhibited at events such as the Venice Biennale, the Berlin Biennale, and Manifesta, and has published notable works such as *Conversing with Leaves* and *Theatrum Botanicum*.
Uriel Orlow's presence reinforced DCAM’s commitment to promoting critical thinking and the exchange of experiences between artists and the academic community.
