PhD in Communication and Activisms
“Hello, my name is Nuno Cruz. I am a student of the PhD in Communication and Activisms at Lusófona University - Porto University Centre.
The reason I chose this doctoral programme is very simple – I know the faculty, I know the faculty’s research, and I am also familiar with the research centre, in this case CICANT, which supports this doctoral programme, so for me the choice was very easy. It was also easy to decide because of its strategic location. As you can see, we have a magnificent view, and just the view alone makes the facilities worth attending, so it was a logical, easy decision.
As part of a conference we organised, entitled “Power to the Fake? The Media and the Rise of Populisms in Portugal”, which received enormous attention not only from academia but also from civil society, we were able to debate how populisms have influenced and polarised civil society. For me, this was a highlight as a student and researcher in this field.
Regarding the doctoral programme itself, what it brought me was more world to my world. Topics that were previously completely overlooked, I now understand and perceive their influence on how society communicates and organises itself, enriching me not only academically but also as an informed citizen.
If you are interested in activism, in communication, and want to engage more knowledgeably in society, I highly recommend the doctoral programme in Communication and Activisms. For other areas within communication sciences, Lusófona University also offers a PhD in Communication Sciences, among other related courses.
I hope to see you here!”
