Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)
The first edition of the event MOV.ONIC@ - Movement and Physical Activity for People with Chronic Illness took place on September 28, 2024, in Lisbon, marking the National Day of Movement and Physical Activity for People with Chronic Illness. The event was held at Parque de Jogos 1.º de Maio, at INATEL, and promoted physical activities not only for people with chronic illnesses but also for the general community, bringing together healthcare professionals, specialists, and participants of different ages and physical conditions.
Under the coordination of the Portuguese Society for Health Literacy (SPLS) and in partnership with Lusófona University, the Portuguese Society of Cardiology, the Directorate-General for Health, and the National Plan for Active and Healthy Ageing, the event also involved the collaboration of about 50 partners, including societies, associations, and various institutions. Participants had access to physical activities adapted to their health conditions, promoting exercise as a fundamental tool for physical and mental well-being.
Dr. Cristina Vaz de Almeida, president and founder of the Portuguese Society for Health Literacy, was present and highlighted the importance of this initiative. In her speech, she emphasized the crucial role that physical activity plays in the prevention and management of chronic illnesses, stressing the need to increase health literacy and engage the population in healthy practices.
The event began with an opening session where several experts discussed the importance of health literacy and active lifestyle practices.
The varied and inclusive program included activities such as "Zumba - Vamos Lá Dançar", promoted by Lusófona University, "Pilates for Good Health", organized by the Loures City Council, and a performance by the group "Batucadeiras das Olaias", from the Pintavida Association. The day ended with a raffle and the awarding of prizes to participants.
This event is a reflection of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3, which aims to ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all ages. The event was more than a day of physical activities; it was also an important step towards building a more active, informed, and committed society focused on its physical and mental well-being.
