Tribeca Festival Lisbon Highlights Partnership with ULusófona

Lusófona University stood out during the first edition of the Tribeca Festival Lisboa, held from October 17 to 19 at the inspiring Unicorn Factory Lisboa in the Beato Innovation District. Founded by Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal, the festival transformed Lisbon into a new epicentre of independent film culture, fostering dialogue between global and local narratives.

The event showcased independent films from the United States and Portugal, accompanied by a diverse programme that included series, music, talks, and podcasts. Among the international productions, highlights included “In the Summers,” presented at Sundance, and “Anora” by Sean Baker, winner of the Palme d'Or at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. On the national front, the premiere of “Os Sonhos Continuam” by emerging filmmakers Marlee and Karlee Rodrigues was a highlight of the Made in Portugal showcase.

With over 100 guests, the festival welcomed renowned figures such as Chazz Palminteri, Dino D’ Santiago, Mia Couto, Luís Sequeira, and José Eduardo Agualusa. Prominent cinema icons like Patty Jenkins, Griffin Dunne, Whoopi Goldberg, and Robert De Niro shared their perspectives on how cinema reflects and connects cultures, fostering empathy and global understanding.

Lusófona University's involvement, in partnership with ZOOT, stood out on various fronts, reinforcing its role as a benchmark in film education. Manuel José Damásio, director of the university's Film and Media Department and recently elected president of CILECT, also participated in the event. This milestone reaffirms Lusófona University's commitment to nurturing talent and fostering innovation in the film industry. The collaboration with the Tribeca Festival Lisboa underscores the importance of events like this, which transform cinema into a tool for exploring, questioning, and celebrating human and cultural diversity, further establishing Lisbon as a hub of creativity and global exchange.
