Paimogo Fort Exhibition: Memories and Historical Reconstruction

ULusófona hosted an initiative that rescues the past and rehabilitates local heritage

On January 16th, Universidade Lusófona – Centro Universitário de Lisboa, hosted the inauguration of the Forte de Paimogo Exhibition, an initiative integrated into the Coastal Memory Fort project that aimed at the rehabilitation of the historical military monument "Forte de Paimogo".

The Exhibition, the result of the joint effort of several entities and personalities involved in the project, presented the historical research work on the site, the construction materials used and the valuable intangible heritage associated with the Paimogo Fort, bringing to light memories and experiences of the local population. During the exhibition, visitors had the opportunity to see up close the result of this joint effort, which aimed to rescue and preserve the history and cultural importance of Paimogo Fort.

Throughout the exhibition, interviews were given that emphasized the importance and meaning of this initiative. Conceição Canavilhas, CEO of Significado, expressed her happiness and satisfaction with the success achieved after years of struggle and support for the project, highlighting the innovative and visionary role of councilor João Serra, from Lourinhã City Council. Teresa Neto, from the EEA Grants Management Team, spoke about the financial mechanism behind the project, highlighting the collaboration between the funding countries Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland. In turn, João Serra, councilor of Lourinhã City Council, contextualized the exhibition within the broader Paimogo Fort and Coastal Memory Fort project, highlighting the continuous material and immaterial recovery efforts developed over the last five years.< /p>

The Forte de Paimogo Exhibition at Universidade Lusófona thus represented a significant milestone in the preservation and appreciation of the region's historical and cultural heritage, in addition to reaffirming the commitment to the revitalization of emblematic spaces for local communities.
