Faculties and Schools

Organic unit dedicated to teaching and research in the general fields of engineering with the integration of multidisciplinary and applied R&D activities in these fields.

Director

Teacher Doctor Cristina Maria Ribeiro Guerra

Presentation

The Faculty of Engineering is one of the nine Faculties/Schools that make up the Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias de Lisboa and has a broad educational and scientific project in the field of Engineering and related areas, ranging from pre- and post-graduate education to to research and development, passing through other types of scientific-professional training, dissemination and provision of services to the community.

In terms of training offer, the Faculty of Engineering combines a great diversity, a high quality of theoretical and practical teaching, adequate laboratory infrastructures for the development of experimental and applied knowledge, and connection to national and international partner entities of reference in the areas of Engineering, Science and Technology, such as LNEC, CSI Portugal, ISG, APEMETA, IPMA, Central de Cervejas, Cerebio Company - France, University of Edinburgh - Scotland, University of Umea - Sweden, among others.

In this sense, the Faculty of Engineering also promotes and deepens cultural, scientific and technical exchanges with similar national and foreign institutions, having a special relationship with students from Portuguese-speaking countries, not forgetting the globalized world through the Erasmus+ programmes, Mundus, based on constant human, cultural, scientific and technical training.

The Faculty of Engineering is organized into 7 functional units in the main areas of Engineering: Food, Biotechnology, Biomedical, Civil, Energy, Environment, Electrotechnics and Industrial Management, with 8 1st Cycle courses (degree), 2 2nd Cycle courses and several postgraduate courses, free courses of short duration.

Teaching

The Faculty of Engineering reorganized the training cycles according to the Bologna Process, having been structured in 1st and 2nd study cycles (Bachelor and Masters).

Research

Research at the Faculty of Engineering is carried out in Units of the Universidade Lusófona and involves transversal and challenging areas in terms of current and general interest.

The challenges proposed and addressed in the research areas require solid knowledge in the areas of science and engineering such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, among others.

On the other hand, collaboration in terms of partnerships in research projects with the business world makes it possible to deepen knowledge and present solutions with mutual benefits.

Internship's

In order to prepare an annual training and internship plan for students from Portuguese-speaking countries who attend Engineering courses in Portugal, with a view to their possible employability in companies, the Superior Business Engineering Council (CSEE) was created based on in Portugal, or others, with operations in these markets increasing local content as well as business competitiveness in those countries. It is in this context and in order to better make the committed contribution of: better serving the needs of companies; improve employability; support the internationalization of companies and encourage the international exchange of Engineers tailored to Portuguese companies, in particular those already internationalized or in the process of doing so.
