Biology is the first and soundest of life sciences. The interest its study raises is very ancient but it remains up-to-date. Biology claims its place as a 21st century science. A proof of this is the growing demand for education in all areas of biological sciences, more or less specific depending on one´s interests. Different integration levels are studied in Biology, from molecules to ecosystems, always connected to the greatest challenges currently met by mankind, from disease eradication to global change. The licenciate/BSc degree in Biology of Lusófona University has been training biologists since academic year 1999/2000 and was the first to do so in the private higher education system in Portugal. It is currently acknowledged as a high quality training ground, with the competency to prepare its students to face the requirements of professional life in the most diverse areas. We train fully dedicated biologists and this is our commitment.

Career opportunities and career prospects
Career opportunities and career prospects
We hope that the foundations obtained by our graduated students will allow them to achieve an activity of higher quality and greater depth. There is a widening array of circumstances where it is becoming imperative to hear the voice and perspective of a biologist. Biology may be the most transversal science area and the professional challenges and opportunities are plenty. Our professional biologists are increasingly integrated in multidisciplinary teams and may provide a great contribution, from basic research to biotechnology, from clinical investigation to teaching, from environment protection and Nature conservation to scientific illustration, from the collaboration in the monumental responsability of bioethics to the analysis of impacts of human activities, from the sensitive issue of resource exploration and measurement of the parameters of the quality of life to bio-entrepreneurship.
