What will I learn in this course?
The students of the 1st Cycle in Biochemistry delivered at Universidade Lusófona de Humanidades e Tecnologias (ULHT) will benefit from a competent and experienced academic staff, from modern and functional infrastructures, in particular for laboratory training. They also take advantage of the possibility to be initiated to scientific research during the 1º Cycle within a Curricular Unit of Project. This new Biochemistry course embraces the challenge of forming a new generation of Biochemists who will be part of public institutions and companies. Students will also be stimulated during the course to become themselves entrepreneurs within their area of expertise. To reach this goal the Biochemistry course in ULHT is betting on a well developed laboratory training as well as on the immediate enrollment of students in research activities. The collaboration with a successful Portuguese company in the area of Biochemistry will decisively contribute to develop the real opportunities that exist in self-entrepreneurship in this area of knowledge.

Career opportunities and career prospects
Career opportunities and career prospects
The 1st Cycle in Biochemistry is training students for the most diversified careers: teaching and/or research in public or private institutions of the Portuguese or foreign Higher Education system, researchers or technicians in the pharmaceutical, biomedical or biotechnological industries (the latter including the vast agribusiness area), or in service companies (clinical analyses, biotechnology, biomedicine), development or participation with partners to the development of their own companies (¿startup¿) thanks to the formation in self-entrepreneurship. The competences that were developed during the study cycle (team work, project management, scientific writing, data analysis,...) will also permit the students to run for employment outside Biochemistry wherever these competences will be appreciated.
